Our Procedures and Policies

Absences
It is important that children attend school on a regular basis unless they are ill. We are legally obliged to request and keep a written explanation of all absences, even when a verbal explanation has been given.  Please assist us by completing a brief note with the date and reason for the absence or a Student Absence Note which will be attached to the newsletter periodically.

Bushfire Risk Days
Schools identified as being at highest bushfire risk will be closed on days declared by fire authorities to be Code Red. Our school has been identified as a school at highest bushfire risk.
Where possible, we will provide parents with up to three days notice of a planned closure. We will contact you directly by letter [or phone] with advice on planned closures and will confirm the decision to close by 12 noon the day before the planned closure. Read more...

Hot Lunches

During second and third terms only children may bring along food items to be heated in the oven.  All items are to be wrapped in foil and marked clearly with the child’s name.

Local Excursions
At the beginning of each year families are asked to complete a consent form for local excursions.  This allows us to take the children on the bus to Thorpdale for joint activities, down to the Narracan Public Hall or other spots in the local area.

Medications

If your child needs to take medication while attending school, parents need to write a note including the child’s name, type of medication, time to be administered, dosage and storage until it is taken.  Medication needs to be given to the class teacher when the child arrives at school.

Money sent to school

When sending money to school, please enclose money and any forms in a sealed envelope with the child’s name, amount and activity  (e.g. Susan Smith, $5.00 Swimming) clearly written on the outside.  Envelopes can be put into the cash tin on the bus for bus travelers or handed in at the office prior to the start of school.  Envelopes especially printed for this purpose are available from the office.

Parking

When parking in front of the school, please leave enough space between the front of your car and the fence for the children to walk along.  Students are instructed not to walk behind vehicles as they are extremely difficult for drivers to see when backing out.
Please leave the space to the left of the gate for the bus to pull up in.

Sunsmart

We are a Sunsmart school which means children must wear hats in Terms 1 and 4.  Sunscreen and sunglasses are also a good idea.  If children do not have a hat they will be required to play in the undercover area or in the shade.
