Piper flew into Narracan Primary School in 2022.
She serves as a visual reminder of our school values and helps us to promote a safe learning environment promoting students’ physical, social, and emotional well-being.
Be Persistant
Be Respectful
Be a Learner
As part of our whole-school well-being program, we are excited to welcome yoga teacher, Kristy, to our school community.
Kristy will be running yoga and mindfulness activities with our whole school, and we are very excited to learn!
At Narracan Primary School we use the Zones of Regulation within our Wellbeing Program to support our students learn how to manage big emotions.
Through social-emotional learning, we teach a common language for communication, problem-solving, and self-awareness.
The Zones of Regulation provides a simple way for students to think and talk about their feelings, sorting them into four different colours.
Feelings can be complicated and come in different sizes, intensities, and levels of energy.
These are unique within our brains and bodies. To make them easier to talk about, think about, and regulate, The Zones of Regulation organizes our feelings, states of alertness, and energy levels into four coloured Zones – Blue, Green, Yellow, and Red.
The simple, common language and visual structure of The Zones of Regulation helps make the complex skill of regulation more concrete for students and those who support them.
We learn to regulate our Zones to meet our goals and task demands, as well as support our overall well-being.
A core belief of The Zones of Regulation is that all the Zones are okay. We routinely experience several of the Zones across a day. It’s critically important that we don’t convey the message that the Green Zone is the only acceptable Zone to be in. Acknowledge, accept, and support these feelings, while never making anyone feel like the Green Zone is the norm.
